The month of apple cider, pumpkin spice, colorful leaves, scary things, and Shadow Work!</p><p>This month's theme, Shadow Work, has been a profound journey of self-discovery. Delving into my shadows has illuminated how they've influenced every aspect of my life. While challenging, this process has been incredibly enlightening, reminding me of the importance of authenticity and aligning my actions with my core values.</p><p>I've realized that chasing external validation, such as money or societal expectations, can lead me astray from my true purpose. My original passion was herbalism, focused on supporting women's health and empowering young girls. While the financial aspect of herbalism presented challenges, I've always prioritized sharing knowledge and supporting others over monetary gain.</p><p>Through shadow work, I've uncovered a deep-seated fear of not being enough or successful, as it pertains to money. This fear, rooted in societal pressures and past experiences, has often clouded my judgment and led me to pursue paths that didn't align with my true values.</p><p>Moving forward, I'm recommitting myself to my original passion: Holistic Coaching and Support for Women, from First Moon Cycle Through Menopause. While I'll still offer life coaching for those who seek it, my primary focus will be on empowering women to take charge of their health and well-being throughout their reproductive journey through holistic coaching and advocacy services.</p><p>This journey of shadow work has taught me a valuable lesson: to stay true to myself and prioritize what truly matters. By aligning my actions with my core values, I am creating a more fulfilling and authentic life.</p><p>This is the importance of Shadow Work! It is part of everyone&#8217;s wellness journey, and like menopause, and menstruation, we need to shine a light on it. Let&#8217;s break the stigma around all these topics and celebrate the woman! Welcome to the very first monthly newsletter! There is where you will find wellness and coaching tips, information on books, places, and people, plus offerings from me and others around the community. If you know of any great events or places I should include, please email me at lynn@lynnquire.com. </p><p>I have chosen wellness as the theme for September. As we are preparing to head into autumn, with winter close behind, I want to offer you one way my family stays well during cold and flu season. Every year I make a batch of Fire Cider. </p><p>Fire Cider, created by Rosemary Gladstar in the 1970&#8217;s, is known as an immune builder and fighter due to the warming ingredients such as ginger, horseradish, peppers, onions, and garlic. There are many recipes and versions out there, that include a variety of ingredients. I chose mine based on things I&#8217;ve learned during my herbalism studies, what I had on hand and could find, and my own tastes.&nbsp;Here&#8217;s my recipe:</p><ul><li><p>1 gallon glass jar with a plastic lid</p></li><li><p>32 oz Apple cider vinegar with mother </p></li><li><p>1 -2 each of oranges, lemons, and limes</p></li><li><p>1 white/yellow onion</p></li><li><p>1 large piece of ginger</p></li><li><p>1 large piece of horseradish (if jar make sure there is nothing added to it)</p></li><li><p>2-4 pieces if fresh turmeric (I used 2-3T powdered because it is what I had)</p></li><li><p>1 T black pepper (I used ground but 2 T peppercorns can be used too)</p></li><li><p>1 large head of garlic</p></li><li><p>1-2 T each of dried thyme, rosemary, and oregano</p></li><li><p>1-2 Cayenne peppers or Jalapenos (I&#8217;ve been known to add both)</p></li></ul><p>** I use a more intuitive method of measurement, letting my gut tell me what I need. So these really are more estimates. </p><p>You can substitute the types of peppers and onions, but those along with garlic, ginger and horseradish are the staples. Pour apple cider vinegar until completely full. Using a wooden spoon or chopstick, move things around to release trapped air. Finish filling to the top. I split mine into a few jars and keep one on the counter with other tinctures I take daily and store the rest in a cool dry place, like a pantry.&nbsp;</p><p>For helping to prevent sickness take a 1 oz shot every day. If you get sick, take it 2-3 times a day.</p><p>I run the solids through a juicer and dehydrate them, then use a coffee/herb grinder to turn them into a powder. It makes a great rub for chicken, and pork, or a seasoning for soups and such.
